THE Central Fife Crime Prevention Panel hopes to persuade Provost of Fife Jim Leishman, himself a Lochgelly man, to open their 2019 Elderly Forum.

The panel decided on Wednesday that Provost Leishman, with his strong connections to the town, would be the ideal person to open the Lochgelly Town Hall day which gives senior citizens the chance to enjoy a light lunch, some key community safety and crime prevention information, and entertainment from local schoolchildren.

The meeting heard that tickets for 120 senior citizens from Crossgates, in the west of the area to Cardenden in the east, would shortly be distributed for the Friday November 22 event.

Said panel chairman Dave Roy: "The Elderly Forum is one of the highlights of our calendar and as it is held in Lochgelly we felt that it would be a good idea to ask Jim Leishman if he could open it for us.

"He is a very popular man in the town and we are sure he would entertain the veterans who enjoy this day."

The panel was told that already a number of stall holders had confirmed they will be at the event offering a host of advice.
