LOCHGELLY Community Council would like the people of the town to give them views on plans to remove the BT telephone box in the town's Lumphinnans Road.

BT, in conjunction with local planning authorities, are running a consultation with regards to the removal of some pay phones and there are 13 in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area ring fenced to be removed, including the Lumphinnans Road box.

Lochgelly CC discussed the issue at their meeting and afterwards secretary, Louise Brown, said: "There’s one pay phone in Lochgelly that is on the list of boxes being considered for removal – the pay phone on Lumphinnans Road opposite the Fire Station.

"There were only 142 calls placed from the phone box in the last 12 months, which is why its been listed for removal.

"The options we have to choose from are basically agree that the box be removed or object to the removal.

"We would like to hear opinions from the community before we submit our opinion on October 30 – whether you agree to the removal or oppose it, we would love to hear from folks".

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Alexander Stewart feels that BT should not be allowed to remove all phone boxes as some provide key contact facilities in communities and that consultation with community groups is a crucial part of the process.
