A FUNDRAISING party to boost the coffers of Dunfermline Food Bank, which supplies the Benarty and Cowdenbeath facilities, is taking place later this year.

The Garvock House Hotel has teamed up with North Road Garage, Kelty, to raise funds for charity and the event will encourage guests to bring a tin of food or a toy for a local disadvantaged child.

Hotel owner Pamela Fernandes was prompted to get involved and help when she took her car into North Road Garage and saw the volume of donations that had been handed into the garage for the Food Bank.

“It really brought it home to me that there is a real need for the Food Bank service,” she said.

“I was staggered by the generosity of those donating on a regular basis, and just how much help the garage was giving them too by appealing for donations as a long-term supporter of the charity. They do a great job acting as a drop-off point locally.

“It inspired me to get involved myself, and I was sure that we could create an event at the hotel in the run-up to Christmas which would bring in a cash donation and some much-needed toys for children.

“On finding out more about the Food Bank, I discovered that anyone can become down on their luck, and need a helping hand with some groceries. The people who use the bank are not just from the area’s traditionally poorer areas. There can be poverty where you least expect it. Many people do not have steady incomes due to zero hours contracts and the like.”

The party – on November 1 – will include a disco and raffle as well as haggis, neeps and tatties.
