ROADWORKS on the A92 created chaos last night at the Crossgates roundabout.

The stretch between the Crossgates interchange and the slip road to the M90 was closed for the work and it meant that drivers wanting to get onto the motorway had to come off at Crossgates and choose to go either via the B981 to Inverkeithing, or go to the Halbeath roundabout to join the M90.

Such was the volume of vehicles involved wanting to either join the M90 or head towards Dunfermline by 9pm the queue of traffic was almost half a mile long and delays were upwards of 20 minutes.

Said one Times reader who was caught up in the chaos: "I had to go to Dunfermline see someone and left Cowdenbeath at 8.45pm and on coming up to the Crossgates roundabout got no further than the junction at the top of the slip road.

"It took more than 20 minutes to get through the snarl up and a journey that normally would take less than 20 minutes took just short of an hour."
