COWDENBEATH held on to its Silver Gilt Status at the Beautiful Fife Awards.

The town's Environmental Group had worked hard over the spring and summer to try and achieve Gold Status, but the judges decided that the team did very well but were to miss out by the narrowest of margins on getting the step up.

Cowdenbeath Environmental Group were a little disappointed not to get Gold but nonetheless were pleased to keep the Silver level this year.

Said a spokesperson for the Group: "We also received a discretionary award for being nominated for Environmental Responsibility at the Cowdenbeath Community Woodland where a lot of work goes in to keep this lovely feature looking good.

"The yarnbombing display on High Street also received a discretionary award. Well done to them".

He added: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the guys at the Fife Council Parks and Open Spaces department and the litter team for all their hard work over the past year.

"To Cowdenbeath Community Council for their assistance in what has been a very busy year on High Street.

"We would also like to thank local business and individuals who contributed to the cause to trying to achieve Gold Status.

"Most of all a huge pat on the back for the many volunteers who turned up on the days work was going on, no matter the weather. We are indebted to you. Without your input Cowdenbeath would be a much duller place. You know who you are.

"Once again a sincere thanks from all at Cowdenbeath Enviro Group."
