COWDENBEATH Rotary Club is hoping that local schools and nurseries will again be able to back their shoebox campaign.

Thursday's meeting heard that over the past few years the area's contribution to Rotary District 1010's Shoebox campaign had seen thousands of boxes sent to places such as Eastern Europe to help give needy children a good Christmas.

The club's international convener, Tom Russell, said: "The plan is to send 200 boxes this year and hopefully we will again be able to get backing from the local school community.

"Our members play a large part in getting these ready to head for needy places but the assistance we get from local schoolchildren is so very valuable and I would hope that 2019 will be no different".

The boxes will be ready for distribution within the next few weeks with the filled versions heading out in the late autumn to suitable destinations in Eastern Europe.
