THE first ever Cowdenbeath 5k Run and Community Fun Day takes place on Sunday September 8 and it will be the latest initiative by the town's Civic Week Committee.

The Fun Day starts 11.30am and finishes at 2pm, with the race starting at noon, with the first finishers estimated to cross the line after approximately 20 minutes.

Civic Week Committee, secretary Claire Morgan, said: "The 5k starts at Central Park and heads out on to the High Street and will move towards Broad Street.

"Runners will continue up Broad Street and along Woodend Place, towards Hill of Beath, where they will then follow the route along the back of Greenbank Drive towards the ‘fish tail’ where they will then swing down Moss-side Road heading for ‘the line’ (green space) back towards Central Park.

"In addition to the 5k event there will also be a community fun day going on within the grounds of Central Park with food, refreshments inflatables, stalls, entertainment from Mr Mohawk, face painting etc.

"Although the schools will have just returned from their summer break, we are hoping that our local primary schools will be able to get teams together to be able to take part in “Catch the Coo,” where they will compete to catch Cowdenbeath FC mascot Bluebell the Coo!

"We hope that people will turn out to wish the runners all the best, whether it be at Central Park or on the route, in the first ever Cowdenbeath 5k, and maybe stay a while to see the first finishers cross the line!

"It is set to be a great afternoon – we just hope the weather behaves!"
