LOCHGELLY Gala turned out be a big success, despite a heavy shower striking at the public park towards the end of Sunday's events.

The parade left West End Park at around 11.30am and headed along Main Street and Bank Street, before moving on to Auchterderran Road and Grainger Street, towards the park.

There was a bit of moisture in the air at times but for the most part it stayed dry until the arrival at the park when the sun started to peak through.

The parade had a magnificent turn out of floats with a number of organisations taking part and judged the best and winning first prize was The Minto Lounge. But all the judges confirmed that such was the quality it was a very difficult job to separate them.

Also in the parade were MSPs Annabelle Ewing and Alex Rowley and literally big features of the day were the Transformers Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee!

At the park the judging of the fancy dress took place and there were some stunning entries. Results were, Fancy Dress 6 and under 1st Jackson Irvine - Oor Wullie, 2 Zoe Webster - Cruella De-vil, 3 Carter Riseborough. Fancy dress 7 and over 1st Ballon Man - Timmy Foster; and 2nd Storm Trooper - Alexander Wright.

The sun shone on much of the park activities with the rides proving very popular.

The Transformers were star attractions for the kids and they were queuing up to have their photograph taken with these large characters.

Unfortunately a heavy shower arrived just as Joe's Band took the stage and after 20 minutes or so conditions became difficult so the presentation had to be curtailed.

As Joe is retiring it was a real disappointment to him not to be able to complete the gig.

The Gala Committee's Derek Johnstone said: "The weather could have been better but it could have been a lot worse and things went pretty well.

"The turn out of floats was amazing and we thank everyone who entered one.

"It was a real shame when the rain came and forced Joe's Band to stop playing but it really was heavy and conditions became uncomfortable."
