A NEW group in Cowdenbeath is giving people the chance to develop their talents as artists and they hope that more people will join them.

'Folk Who Paint At Cowdenbeath' was only established at the Maxwell Centre at the end of January but already they have 14 members who meet weekly and produce some amazingly professional creations.

They meet every Thursday from 1.30pm to 4.30pm at the Centre and everyone is welcome to get involved, whether you have been drawing and painting for years or are a beginner keen to give it a go and see what develops.

Someone who had enjoyed painting at the school but who had 50 years away from the pencil and brush is Marilyn Stokes, who saw that the group had been established and felt that she would like to see if her old skills were still there.

Said Marilyn: "I really enjoyed drawing and painting at the school but having a busy working life I just did not have the opportunity to try to keep at it.

"When I saw that Folk Who Paint At Cowdenbeath as up and running I decided to have a bash and I was amazed that I could still produce one or two decent creations.

"The thing is that a few of the group are very good and knowledgeable and are always there to help if you have a query."

The group has a full set of office-bearers and constitution and is set to hold its first exhibition on Saturday October 12 at the Maxwell Centre.

The group's Kathryn would delighted to speak to anyone who is interested in joining in on the weekly sessions and can be called on 07771745252 and she added: "While it is all about enjoying painting there is a good social side to our sessions by having a blether over a cuppa.

"Also there is the opportunity to have a taster afternoon with materials supplied by the group to let anyone have a go and see if they like painting or drawing.

"At the end of the day it is all about having good fun."

Kathryn said that people wanting to have a go can just call in at the Maxwell Centre any Thursday afternoon.
