A LOCHGELLY teenager caused a crash when he drove after a night out.

Ben Dixon, 19, of Hamilton Street, was more than three times over the limit.

At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Dixon admitted that on July 19, in Foulford Street, Cowdenbeath, he drove a car having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 73 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said police received a call at around 4am reporting a crash and arrived at the scene to find a car in the middle of the road.

Defence solicitor Amy Allan said: “He’d been out in Dunfermline with friends and had gone in a taxi back to Crossgates. His car was parked there, he made the stupid decision to drive and was involved in a minor collision.”

Sheriff Charles MacNair told Dixon he was still an inexperienced driver, having just passed his test in October.

“For a new driver to be driving at more than three times over the limit is extremely dangerous,” he added.

The sheriff banned Dixon from driving for 16 months and fined him £400.
