AN INVERKEITHING man has been jailed for a spate of shoplifting offences.

Peter Mitchell, 45, of Alma Street, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing, having previously admitted a string of offences.

On June 10 and 22 last year at Scotmid, High Street, Inverkeithing, he stole food items.

On July 22 last year at the same shop, he again stole food items.

Then on May 22, 24 and 25 he returned to the Scotmid store, helping himself to more food items without paying.

On May 27, at Boots, Kingsgate Centre, Dunfermline, he stole a quantity of aftershave.

Then on June 12 he breached bail conditions imposed two weeks earlier not to enter Inverkeithing High Street.

Defence solicitor Gordon Martin said his client had been stealing to buy drugs or to pay off drugs debts.

Sheriff Craig McSherry jailed Mitchell for seven months.
