A MAN who subjected his former partner, from Cardenden, to a campaign of stalking has been sentenced.

David Macleod, 48, of West Way, Hillend, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He previously admitted that between June 18 and 24, in Cardenden, he engaged in a course of conduct which caused a woman fear and alarm.

He repeatedly sent her messages via social media, some of which were of a sexually offensive nature and included offensive images, attempted to open website accounts in her name, arranged for food to be delivered to her home and posted mail to her home.

Depute fiscal, Alistair McDermid, said the couple had been in relationship for six years but it ended in May.

Then in June, the woman began receiving abusive messages from Macleod.

She also received sign-up messages for porn websites and a receipt from a Chinese take-away for a meal she had not ordered.

When police investigated the incidents, Macleod admitted he was responsible and said: “I’m sorry this happened.”

Defence solicitor, Ian Beatson, said his client was a first offender and works as a lorry driver.

“He tells he was drunk or ‘out of his face’, as he describes it, when he sent the messages,” he added.

Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a two-year non-harassment order and a community payback order with 12 months’ supervision.
