A WOMAN was assaulting by a drunk man who became upset when his chips were knocked out of his hand in Cowdenbeath High Street at the weekend.

The incident resulted in John Reid appearing from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Reid, 27, of Galt Road, Musselburgh, admitted that on Saturday, at High Street, Cowdenbeath, he assaulted a woman by seizing her by the body, attempted to place her in a headlock and attempted to pull her to the ground.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said the two people involved were not known to each other.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm when Reid began to pester the woman who had been out socialising with friends.

She told him to leave her alone and the argument developed into a struggle with Reid trying to put the woman in a headlock and pull her to the ground.

However, the incident was seen by passing police officers who intervened.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “There was an argument. She knocked his chips onto the ground and he reacted in this way when the police were passing.

“He had too much to drink, the parties on the other side had also been consuming alcohol and this all blew up out of nothing.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry fined Reid £400.
