THIS week's Down Memory Lane pictures come from Betty Moffat and Lydia Gorman.

They involve a ladies football team from the ABCD villages and also a class at Lumphinnans Primary School from middle of the 20th century, Lydia thinks 1961 or 62.

The picture from Betty is from June 1969 ie 50 years ago and shows Bowhill Girls Football Team, called The Bowden Ladies.

They were formed in response to a challenge from the late Hughie Green, of TV's Opportunity Knocks Fame and they travelled through to Butlins in Ayr for a ladies football tournament, along with three buses of supporters from Cardenden, in July 1969!

Left to Right, they are: Betty Moffat (who handed in the pic), Brenda Duncan, Anna Erskine, Janice Christie, Christine McDonald, Christine Drummond, Margaret Howie, Margaret Wotherspoon and Anna Fox. Others in the team included Elinor Herd and June Pyper.

Their manager was Mr Mathieson, who was the janitor at Cardenden Primary School, and their trainer was Ernie Taylor, who played for Dundonald Bluebell, while their secretary was Miss Nancy Fox.

Said Betty: "Who would believe that 50 years later we would be having a Women's World Cup. One of the players now lives in America and was recently back in Fife, before heading out to France to see the World Cup".

Our pictures show the team shot and the girls during a training session.

Lydia's photograph is in excellent condition despite it being many decades old and shows back row (left to right), George Law, Alan Fyfe, John Hay, Tommy Fletcher, Clarence Williams, James Wilson, Hugh McPherson, John Armstrong.

Middle row, Isobel Fleetham, Margaret Henderson, Robin Drylie, Alex Bryson, Ian Beveridge, Thomas Campbell, Andrew Adamson, Sheila Muir, Helen Hunter, Helen Campbell.

Front row, Wilma Bain, Janet Small, Violet Bain, Joan Kinnell, Maureen Malcolm, Jeanette Finlayson, Ann Flockhart, Eleanor Hunter, Lydia Gorman, Sarah Hunter and Sheena Clark.
