SHEER hard work by committed volunteers has seen a derelict area in Lumphinnans turned into a lovely community garden.

The village's Tenants and Residents Association has been behind the project at the end of Ochil View.

Association secretary, Tracy McCann, explained that last year they successfully applied for funding which enabled them to clear the former garage site, purchase tools and materials as well as a large cabin for storage.

Tracy added: "We’ve been lucky to have the support from Fife Housing Association, particularly from Helen Millar and Audrey Cameron. They really helped us a lot from the very beginning.

"We have an incredibly large space and and asked the villagers for their the views and thoughts, after all this has been a project that is for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone in the village.”

Councillor, Darren Watt, has also been involved with the project from day one and said: “This group of local residents are very passionate about their village and wanted to create a safe enclosed space where families, friends and neighbours can play, relax and socialise. They have achieved so much in a short space of time and it is brilliant to see their dreams become a reality".

Tracy added: "We held a Thank You BBQ event for everyone who has helped us create the garden.

"We've had plants from Morrisons, Dobbies, Asda which has been fantastic.

"Our Facebook page also shows the difference we've been able to make on a derelict piece of land that once was an eyesore but is now a lovely, pleasant place for families to sit and enjoy.

"But we we're still looking for members of the community to join in and give us a hand to keep the good work going".
