BUDDING legal eagles from Crossgate Primary went on trial this week and topped a national competition.

The primary seven pupils donned their wigs and gowns for the annual Mock Court Awards in Edinburgh and came away with the Advocacy Award for the second year in a row.

Class teacher Lisa O'Donnell said the children had to prepare and present a court case for the event.

"The children worked with staff from the Fife Law Centre to prepare the case," she explained. "They made their own gowns which included the school tartan and created productions for the case.

"They also wrote newspaper articles and made art work showing the solicitors in court. It was a wonderful experience for the children to be involved in and they developed many skills.

“Some of the children designed and sewed the gowns, while others were solicitors, artists or journalists so it appealed to the children’s many different strengths.

"The school was the only winner from Fife and is rightfully thrilled to be recognised for the hard work and effort put in by staff, children and parents."
