A SIMPLE query about an overgrown flowerbed led to parents and pupils coming together to brighten up a patch of Cardenden.

The local community decided to dig in after Islay and Mark Dunlop highlighted a neglected and forgotten plot at Carden Castle Park.

The couple had approached village councillor Rosemary Liewald and now, with assistance from Fife Council, it's set to become a little oasis of colour.

Cllr Liewald said: "With the help and assistance from our parks, streets and open spaces team, led by Colin Davidson, we had an afternoon which saw the community come together to create what is now a lovely flowerbed for all to enjoy.

"Islay and Mark and others are happy to maintain the bed, alongside local children from the primary school who joined Ms Sheils, the newly appointed head teacher, at the planting.

"Over recent years Cardenden has become a successful entry into the Beautiful Fife competition, gaining a silver gilt award.

"The competition is focused on local folk within the environmental group and residents coming together and planting out flowerbeds and maintaining the profile of the village.

"This community planting can only help."
