PLANS for a major housing development in Lochgelly have moved a step closer.

Omnivale, based in Nottinghamshire, want to develop 10 hectares of agricultural land on the south side of the town, adjoining The Avenue.

They submitted a proposal of application notice to Fife Council which has now been approved and gives them a 12 weeks consultation period before a planning application can be tabled.

While the exact number of houses Omnivale want to build is not yet known, the proposals are for “a major residential development of residential units, associated car parking, open space, landscaping, drainage and formation of new accesses onto The Avenue”.

The site is across the road from the Easy Living development which is currently under construction.

The developer aims to consult the local community about their proposals and a public meeting is expected to be in Lochgelly Town Hall on Wednesday July 3.

This is still to be confirmed.
