THE unplanned flaring that began at Mossmorran earlier today has now ended.
ExxonMobil said a "mechanical issue" at their Fife Ethylene Plant had been fixed.
Flaring - the burning of excess gas - began this morning with politicians and watchdog Sepa pledging to investigate and quiz the company as to why it was happening again.
Just before 4pm, Jacob McAlister, plant manager, said: “Normal operations have resumed at FEP after our team worked swiftly to resolve a mechanical issue which occurred earlier today.
"We fully understand any concerns and would like to reiterate our apology for any inconvenience caused in local communities.”
The company added: "The flare is an essential part of the plant’s systems and we would like to assure you that there was no danger to local communities or staff on site."
