KELTY'S Young Artist of the Year is Eva Brady, who received her award from local councillor Alex Campbell.

Eva's creation was an imaginative painting of her favourite animal, a dog, and Councillor Campbell, along with MP Lesley Laird and MSP Annabelle Ewing, were highly impressed with her painting.

The painting was framed by Peter Dodds, of the Kelty Art Centre and will be displayed in the community centre for one year and Eva also was presented with the Jim McLure Memorial Trophy after the announcement by Helen, Jim's widow.

The full list of winners was, Jim McLure Memorial Trophy, Eva Brady; first places, Primary 4 Alisha Rasool; Primary 5 Tyler Robertson; Primary 6 Erin Adam; Primary 7 Eva Brady.

Art Club secretary Syd Reeve thanked the judges who he said had a very hard job to do: "The finalist judges were Peter Dodds of Kelty Art Centre; Rev Hugh Steele of Kelty Kirk and George Hogg, a prominent member of the village community.

"They had the hardest of tasks and speaking to them they felt that the winning paintings embodied the subject matter and just pipped their fellow pupils with their visualisation of their favourite animals.

"The success of the competition is shown by the near 300 entries and I say to every one of them you are all winners and should be immensely proud of your work."
