THE links between the children of a local school and a nearby care village have been strengthened by a venture which saw the pupils knitting.

Girls from Primary 7 at Lumphinnans Primary School have knitted blankets with the support of one of the school's volunteers and delivered them to the senior citizens at Lindsay House Care Home, in Cedar Crescent.

Said headteacher Linda Skelding: "The girls were delighted to learn new skills and worked extremely hard to ensure the blankets were of good quality to give as a gift to the residents.

"We thoroughly enjoy being part of the Care Home community with regular visits for a variety of events such as singing, Literacy and Numeracy activities, and Health and Wellbeing activities, along with Easter events and celebrating their first birthday.

"The inter generational work allows our pupils to build relationships with the elderly members of the community and share stories about the past."
