A FORMER Ballingry woman has become the Depute Mayoress of the Isle of Man.
Janet Thommeny (formerly McCann) of Kirkland Park, Ballingry, has just been made Deputy Mayoress of Douglas Borough Council on the Isle of Man.
The ceremony took place on Thursday, in Douglas, with the Mayor bestowing the Deputy Mayoress' Badge on Janet. Janet, 59, said: "I am so proud to receive this honour, and will work tirelessly to fulfil my obligations and represent the people of Douglas to the best of my ability."
Janet trained as a psychiatric nurse in Fife, spending much of her early career at the former Lynebank Hospital, in Dunfermline, before moving to take up a new career opportunity on the Isle of Man some years ago, where she settled with her son David.
After retiring from nursing, Janet was elected to the local community council in Douglas, where she served for a number of years before becoming Deputy Mayoress.
