LOCAL residents in Crossgates and Aberdour will be consulted about plans for a nearby quarry – which will eventually become a country park.

Collier Quarrying and Recycling Ltd hope to explain their ideas for Goathill Quarry, at Easter Bucklyvie, next month.

They are seeking retrospective permission for an acoustic bund, or noise barrier, which is on the eastern side and covers around 8.5 hectares.

The rock quarry as a whole is 63 hectares.

They've submitted a proposal of application notice to Fife Council for the site, which is east of Crossgates and north of Aberdour, and it gives them 12 weeks to consult the public before a full planning application can be tabled.

Colliers have used "inert waste and overburden" from the quarry to create the new land profile for the bund and the area has been seeded to grass with "extensive" woodland planting.

More tree planting, access paths and fencing are also planned as they aim to restore the area with the eventual aim of turning the area into a country park.

Agents for the firm have written to both Crossgates and Aberdour community councils to try and arrange meetings to give an overview of the project and seek feedback from locals.

They're also hoping to organise an open day in Crossgates next month with dates and times still to be determined.
