Spring is officially here and with that comes light sunny days and nights.  Leaving the curtains open that little longer in the evenings to enjoy the sun beaming through for as long as possible.

Unfortunately, however, the sun has a habit of highlighting what the dark nights and cosy lights seem to disguise very well, all those things you have been thinking of changing at home.  It could be that all that needs done is a full spring clean, getting into all those nooks and crannies that no one has thought of looking at since last Spring, or maybe that’s just me! Perhaps a fresh coat of paint will satisfy your hunger for change.

There are lots of little things that that you can do to do transform your home without it having to cost a small fortune or take you until Autumn to finish. Whatever it may be that you want to do, we are here to give you some ‘Springspiration’ to help get your home ready.

Deep Clean

This seems like an obvious one to start with but doing a deep clean really can make your home feel like new.

The best way to go about it is to tackle one room at a time, even one day at a time so that it doesn’t feel too overwhelming. The kitchen and the bathroom are often the most popular rooms in the house to start with as these get used by everyone at home and can get the grubbiest the quickest.

If you can, why not get the kids involved. By turning it into a fun activity, you’ll all be getting some quality family time in as well as getting the house in tip top shape, win win.

Rugs with throw down

Changing or for that matter adding a rug to any room is a really easy way to give any floor a new lease of life, just in time for Spring.

You might want to simply replace your old rug which has seen better days because, despite your best intentions, everyone continues to keep their shoes on in the house or maybe it’s seen one or two spills in its day!

You may want to choose a rug that ties in with the existing décor but if you really want to ramp up your style, choose a bright and vibrant rug that really pulls focus and gives you some serious style brownie points. There are lots to choose from out there to suit all budgets like those from Ikea or Habitat.

Curtain time

When it comes to curtains; the colour, texture and style you choose can have a serious style impact on the room that they are in. By simply changing even the colour, you can give a room a real boost.  It’s not unusual to swap out your heavier winter curtains for that of a lighter material and colour in the warmer months but out with colour, there are some other factors to take into consideration when making your choice.

Fabric: The fabric will determine how well they hang and how they stand the test of time. It’s also worth thinking about whether you need black out curtains, especially if you are choosing ones for your bedroom.

Machine wash or dry clean only: This can be a big factor as many of us prefer the easy option of being able to just pop them in the machine rather than making the trip and the expense of going to the dry cleaners.

Throw some shade

We can often underestimate the effect of adding a different shade to an existing lamp or changing up your ceiling shade can have.

Most of us just stick with the shade that came with the lamp but there is a huge range of affordable options out there to change up the look, making your old lamp look like new. Think about changing up the size, pattern, texture and colour to make a real transformation.

The Radiators

Another option to take into consideration is changing up the style of your radiators. This is something that is often overlooked because it be seen as being too pricey but there are some surprisingly affordable options available like that from Trade Radiators, who currently have a Spring sale on. B&Q also have some offers on selected brands.

Imagine the impact changing your bog standard plain white radiator to that of a retro cast iron one will have on the overall look of a room. With so many different colours and styles available, you’re spoiled for choice.

Plant power

By now, most of us know the health benefits that come with adding a bit of greenery to our homes such as improving the quality of the air that we are breathing in.

But out with that, they just make any space look better. There are so many different shapes and sizes to choose from to brighten up your space and let’s not forget the stylish pots that you can get.

If you don’t already have an assortment of plant pots kicking around, there are retailers like Bakker.com who give you the option to add an affordable pot to fit your plant and they will deliver direct to your door.

Furniture makeover

Painting old furniture to revamp or and bring it into the 21st century isn’t a new concept, but it is one that many of us see as being too big of a job or think that by doing it ourselves, it simply won’t look very good but it really couldn’t be easier.  Here are some tips to consider:

1. Prep the furniture by giving the piece a good clean.

2. Sand so that the paint has a good surface to grip onto.

3. Use a primer, it helps your paint adhere to the piece better and covers any stains or discolorations in the wood

4. Sand again!

5. Paint, obviously this is purely down to personal taste, but rich bold colours seem to be favoured for old furniture

6. Protect. 24 hours after you have finished painting, you are ready to seal it. Sealing your furniture gives it extra protection and creates a wipeable, easy to clean surface.

Regardless of which direction you decide to take with your Spring transformation, even if it’s just a thorough clean, you’ll be glad you made the changes. As they say, clean home, clear mind!
