A CARDENDEN man who breached bail conditions after claiming he thought they had been lifted has been jailed.

Blair Matthews, 41, of Kirkburn Drive, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He had previously admitted breaching bail conditions which banned him from approaching or contacting his ex partner on March 23 by repeatedly contacting her by telephone. He also failed to remain at his bail address from 7pm until 6am the following morning.

Solicitor, David Bell, said Matthews had been in custody on remand in respect of the case.

He said that on March 23, his client was contacted by his former partner who indicated she wanted to meet up because the bail order was no longer in place and she had had a letter to confirm that was the case. However, the letter related to another case which had closed.

"It is his position that this was not intentional," he added.

Sheriff Charles Macnair jailed Matthews for 80 days which he backdated to March 26.

"You have a record such that you must have known perfectly what the position was in relation to bail," he said.

"The letter which had been read out does say that bail was, in relation to a case, but not all cases because the letter was saying a case had come to an end.

"You knew perfectly well that the case you were on bail for had not come to an end."
