AN Old Firm game with a difference is being held this weekend to boost Cowdenbeath Gala Day's funds.

The town's Civic Week Committee is gearing up for this year's events and are hoping for some great weather for gala day on Saturday June 15.

It costs over £10,000 to mount gala day so they are always busy raising funds but this Sunday's event is an unusual fundraiser that will be taking place at Central Park when Cowdenbeath Rangers take on Cowdenbeath Celtic with a 4pm kick-off.

Said the Civic Week Committee's Alex Haddow: "The players taking part are all making a donation and we are hoping that people will come along and enjoy this fun event.

"The Raja Brothers, who own the shop in Moss-side Road, are sponsoring the game and there will be buckets to make donations in.

"Rumour has it that there will be some former senior players taking part like Craig (Toorie) Winter and Eric Archibald, two popular Cowden stalwarts of the past.

"It should be a really great afternoon of fun and all in a really good cause."

The teams are hoping to have squads of 16 or so each and there will be rolling substitutions.

Alex added: "The Civic Week Committee is indebted to Cowdenbeath FC, the groundstaff at Central Park and GMP for helping us stage the game."
