THERE was plenty of local interest in the inaugural Scottish Greenpower Formula 24 and 24+ series which took place at East Fortune where 21 teams from across Scotland attended.

Teams from Aberdeen, West of Scotland, the Borders and Fife all came together for a fabulous days racing and the BRAG based Team Popo Cops, along with the Beath High School racers, made a very good impression, albeit an unfortunate crash forced the Cowdenbeath Community Police sponsored Popo Cops racers' meeting into a premature delay.

The F24+ race winner was the Fife College car, College Speedster, which was impressively driven, while the F24 winner race 1 and race 2 was Grampian Transport Museum car Spyder

This was the Beath High School racers' first time at East fortune with their car, Beath Young Racers, and they had a great day finishing in fourth place in race 1 and 5th place in race 2.

The Cowdenbeath Police Team, Popo Cops, were really going from strength to strength until they had an accident in race 2, which resulted in them coming off the track with a mangled wheel.

However, PC Gary Crystal and PC Barry Smith, from the Community Police team, were on hand to deal with the situation and they managed to keep things running with their pits' work.

The F24 team at BRAG has been something which the Police Team have been involved in for a few years now and in 2017 they went to Alabama in the USA to race and proved to be excellent ambassadors for the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.

Ann Moodie, Youth & Community Development Worker, at BRAG Enterprises, was highly enthusiastic about the performances of all the Fife racers and particularly the Popo Cops team and looking ahead she said: "The Fife Greenpower Goblin Event will take place at Cowdenbeath Racewall on Friday June 7 where 30 Primary Schools will be racing their Goblin Cars for 8/11year-olds, watch this space for further details…"

The next Scottish F24 race will take place at Grampian Transport Museum on Friday June 14 and the next F24 and F24+ race will take place at East Fortune on Sunday September 22.
