A POPULAR feature in Cardenden has been given a new lease of life.

Cardenden Community Development Forum has co-ordinated repairs to the 'Viewing Point' in the village off Gammie Place.

Following years of neglect, the structure, which allows views of the rolling countryside beyond the village, had become dangerous and bits of it had to be cordoned off.

The Viewing Point has now been restored to its former glory. Cardenden Community Development Forum vice-chair, Dave Roy, told the Times that the Forum was inspired to reinstate the Viewing Point by local Community Champion and volunteer Willie Duncan, who is better known in the ABCD community as Dunc.

Dave said: "Dunc approached us last summer and asked if we could organise and co-ordinate the repairs, and we were only too glad to take up the challenge.

“The viewing point had been extensively damaged years ago by vandalism and fire and had therefore been out of use and was in a dangerous state.

“With the help of the Community Payback Team, funding from Ore Valley Housing Association, and some hard graft from myself and local farmer and community volunteer, Brodie Wallace, we finally managed to turn the structure into something that the community can once again enjoy".

He added: “The structure will now be known as 'DUNC'S VIEW' and this is to thank Willie for all the efforts and community voluntary work he carries out in the village in his roles with the Residents Association, John Thomson Committee and the Community Bonfire.”
