COUNCILLOR Linda Holt has welcomed being informed by Fife Council officers that the controversial plan to give the University of St Andrews a 40-year lease on a boathouse it planned to build at Lochore Meadows Country Park has been abandoned.
The planning application was opposed by Cowdenbeath Area Committee and the issue failed to gather any pace.
Cllr Holt commented: “I am very pleased to learn that the University of St Andrews is no longer interested in pursuing a lease for a boathouse at the Meedies loch.
"This was a proposal which the local community was very unhappy about because it would have placed severe limitations on the use of the loch for decades by others, and the University failed to come up with robust plans to share their activities with the local community".
