PASSENGERS are fed-up suffering daily travel on ScotRail's overcrowded carriages and having their jobs and family life impacted by cancelled or delayed trains and they have been signing a petition started Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath MP Lesley Laird in big numbers nearing 1,000.

Ms Laird said: “Signatures gathered so far evidence the strength of feeling in the community on this issue and we’re still at early days in the campaign.

“Commuters are absolutely sick to the back teeth trying – and failing - to juggle job and family commitments because they can’t rely on ScotRail trains.

“Add to that the overcrowding, which people warn will be unbearable come summer, and it’s no surprise passengers are angry at having to pay full price for a sub-standard service".

The MP who started the petition after the public meeting with ScotRail chief Alex Hynes added: “The petition is perfectly reasonable, calling for meaningful compensation until services return to normal.

“If the Scottish Government firmly believes ScotRail can make good on its pledge to fix Fife’s services ‘by the end of 2019’, they should be prepared to make reasonable concessions until then.

“Fife passengers feel they’re being treated with utter contempt. I’m not going to just stand by and let that happen. I would urge readers to sign the petition and add their voice to the campaign.”
