ALL Things Japanese was the theme at Crossgates Primary last week.

The school hosted the Japanese Language and Culture Youth Conference which was organised by the Edinburgh-based Consulate General of Japan.

Primary six and seven youngsters, who were joined by pupils from Hill of Beath Primary, got the chance to dabble in the Japanese language, try out some Shodo calligraphy and take part in a karate taster session.

Principal teacher Jemma Thomas said the children were engrossed in finding out about another culture.

"It was the consulate who arranged this as they are trying to reach as many people as possible," she explained. "The children were so enthusiastic about it all and it was a great experience for them.

"This year we have done a lot of work under the umbrella of global citizenship and we have build up a relationship with Dunfermline Mosque, we had the Singing Children of Africa come in so this was the cultural experience for our children for this term."
