IN the most exciting finish to Cowdenbeath Rotary Club's Primary School Quiz in a decade Lochgelly South emerged as winners by a single point on Wednesday.

The quiz, held at Lochgelly Centre, attracted a record turn out of 14 schools from all over the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area and right from the outset defending champions, Foulford, were challenging strongly.

Other former winners, Crossgates, also made a good start but by the end of round four only six points covered all 14 teams.

The quality of the answers being offered were excellent and going into the last round two points covered the South, Foulford and Crossgates.

At the end of round eight the stats showed Crossgates on 57 points; Foulford 59 and the South 60.

Quiz master Neil Westgarth commented: "The quality of the answers throughout was first class and the top three really held their nerve in the last round and congratulations to Lochgelly South for a very good performance."

Quiz organiser, Jim Stark, said: "That was the most number of schools we have ever had for the competition and the children and staff members accompanying them certainly enjoyed the tense finish.

"We now wish South good luck in the Area Final which takes place at the end of April at Dalgety Bay."

The winning team was Josh Duncan, Rocco Leslie and Jay Rutherford and their teacher, Lee Steel said: "What a lovely afternoon and a great finish and we look forward to competing in the next round".
