A BEAUTIFUL day weather wise greeted the visit of the John Thomson team winners and individual winners to Celtic Football Club.

The sun shone last Friday as the children, who had been outstanding in the 2018 John Thomson tournament held to remember the Cardenden man who was fatally injured in an accident which occurred in an Old Firm game at Ibrox in 1931, headed for Celtic Park and also the Lennoxtown training centre.

The youngsters were accompanied by members of the organising committee, team coaches, and guests, including Cardenden community youth leaders Cheryl Gilfillan and Nicola Wilson.

The first port of call was Celtic Park, where the party from Cardenden were given a full tour of the stadium, which included the boardroom, trophy room, changing facilities and the technical areas and all parts of the 60,000 seater ground.

They then enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch in the Jock Stein lounge, courtesy of Celtic FC while the youngsters were given some pocket money to spend in the Celtic Superstore if they so wished.

To finish a very special day for the youngsters they were taken to Celtic's training ground at Lennoxtown where some of last year's winners were given autograph and photo opportunities with various Celtic players and enjoyed a game in the excellent indoor football arena there.

John Thomson Committee chair, Alex Burns, MBE, forwarded his thanks on behalf of the group from Cardenden, to Celtic FC for making the day possible.

He added: "I would also like to say a big thank-you to head of the club's PR Department, Ian Jamieson, for all of his assistance which was greatly appreciated and also the guides at Celtic Park and Lennoxtown.

"Also I would like to thank Margaret King, from Bowhill Centre, and Gayle Faulds from the Corrie Centre, for their assistance in making it a great day."
