DRIVERS can expect delays and tailbacks with a weekend of roadworks ahead on the M90 motorway near Dunfermline.

Resurfacing of the northbound carriageway between March 15 and 18 means that traffic will be down to a single lane in each direction between junctions 2A and 3.

A statement from Amey said: "These works have been planned for the weekend to minimise disruption, however, some traffic delays are expected.

"Motorists planning to use this route are advised to allow extra time for their journey."

From 8pm on Friday, March 15, until 6am on Monday, March 18, a contraflow will be in operation between junction 2A – the exit for the A92 – and junction 3 (Halbeath).

The northbound off-slip at junction 3 will be closed during the works.

A diversion route will be signposted via junction 2, the A823(M), the A823 and the A907.

Amey was awarded the Forth Bridges operating contract, which includes the approach roads on both sides of the Forth from M9 junction 1A at Kirkliston to M90 junction 3 at Halbeath and will include responsibility for the Queensferry Crossing, in December 2014.

It runs for five years with scope for extending up to a maximum of 10 years.
