THE 50th anniversary of the opening of Bowhill Swimming Pool will be celebrated on Thursday.

The Fife Sports and Leisure Trust will be marking the anniversary between 12.30pm and 2.20pm, and is welcoming people to celebrate 50 years of keeping the local community active and feeling great.

Staff and customers are coming together to mark 50 years since Bowhill Swimming Pool opened its doors with a look back at the facility’s role in the local community.

Bowhill Swimming Pool has a proud heritage of community support at its very foundation with local miners and their families helping to raise some of the £47,000 needed to build the facility in 1969.

Sharon Johnstone, operations manager for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “Our staff are really looking forward to welcoming local customers along to the event. "Bowhill is a well-loved local facility and generations of people have fond memories of learning to swim here and its served as an invaluable training facility for local swimming clubs.

“There will be photos on display, refreshments and a celebration cake on offer – we look forward to seeing as many people down at the centre as possible.”
