PICTURED is Lady, who Cowdenbeath Rotary Club is sponsoring to become a guide dog.

The club has supported Guide Dogs Scotland and Fife organisation, seescape, for many years but this year such was the success of their Ladies Day fundraiser the members made the decision to sponsor a Guide Dog.

The idea came about when former president, Alex Cuthbertson's wife Irene's guide dog suffered an injury and had to return to Guide Dogs' Forfar training base to recover.

Last Thursday's meeting was told by secretary David Hunter that after the Ladies Day event last May, which realised more than £12,000 for the club's charities fund, the decision was taken to investigate how a Guide Dog could be sponsored.

He added: "We got the required information and took the decision to back a puppy's training to become a guide dog and chose the name Lady to celebrate the success of the event which raised the funds for the cause.

"We are now delighted that we now have a copy of her birth certificate and a photograph of Lady, who we hope will successfully go through the training process to prepare her to become someone's 'eyes' in the not too distant future."

The club's sponsorship of Lady totals £2,000.

Club president, Norman Black, stressed that this sort of project is only possible through the support of the club's various fundraisers by the public.

He commented: "Without the incredible backing of the people of the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area and beyond things such as sponsoring lady would not be possible."
