COWDENBEATH MSP Annabelle Ewing, has welcomed reports that Fife Council’s Community & Housing Services Committee has this morning agreed to calls to have the whole of the village of Glencraig restored to its rightful place within the boundaries of Benarty Community Council.

Speaking this afternoon, Ms Ewing said: “I warmly welcomed this decision by the Community & Housing Services Committee of Fife Council to recognise the strength of the case being put to have the whole of the village of Glencraig restored to its rightful place within the boundaries of Benarty Community Council.

“Administrative boundaries should never just be about drawing lines on a map or making the numbers fit, but everything to do with respecting the history of a place and the generations who have lived there.

"The acknowledgement of this by the Council committee demonstrates what is possible if you have a whole community assert its position".

Ms Ewing added: “The separation of North and South Glencraig may never have been on the scale of East and West Berlin but there will be great delight at this re-unification, nevertheless.

“This decision is a fantastic result for people power and is entirely down to the campaign run with the support of Benarty Community Council.

"What a team campaigners Willie Clarke and Brian Menzies are. It really shows what can be done if you have a principled objective and are determined to succeed. I am proud to represent such folk.”

The year long campaign persuaded councillors to give it unanimous backing to change the boundary from the Fitty Burn to south of Lochgelly High School.
