EWAN McDonald, a 2nd year pupil at Beath High, has gained further recognition for his voluntary work.

Ewan, who at the end of 2018 was awarded a Sports Leaders UK ‘I can lead!’ certificate for completing a two day course and for volunteering for 112 hours during the summer holidays, has continued his exceptional commitment to helping others.

He has now been awarded with with four additional Salitire Awards for 10, 25, 50 and 100 hours volunteering. The Saltire Award scheme can be entered into by young people in Scotland, aged 12 to 25 years, and allows valuable volunteer work carried out by Scotland’s young people to be recognised by the Scottish Government and Voluntary Action Scotland.

Ewan amassed his volunteering hours at Cowdenbeath After School & Holiday Club, completing various reviews, helping plan events and leading activities for the children who attend. “His achievements are impressive in their self but even more so considering his age,” explained Ewan’s Guidance teacher Mr Blanchflower. “One hundred hours is an incredible amount for a 13-year-old and it is great to hear Ewan is working towards, and close to achieving, the 200 hour award. Great work and well done!”
