PUPILSfrom Cowdenbeath Primary School were delighted to accept delivery of their very own ‘Parking Buddy’.

The move is part of initiatives involving local primary schools to improve road safety as streets around primaries get ever busier in mornings and afternoons.

All primary schools in Cowdenbeath were invited by the Community Police Team to create a catchy hashtag that promoted road safety around schools.

PC Calum McDougal and PC Fiona Menzies were inundated with hashtag ideas and chose #LookOutForMe as the winning slogan.

The Cowdenbeath pupils received their own 'Parking Buddy' from PC Menzies, who was accompanied by Betty Wotherspoon and Dave Roy from the Central Fife Crime Prevention Panel, who have been promoting 'road safety around schools'. The parking buddies are made by Carol McDonald from Sign2schools, in West Yorkshire.

The Panel's vice-chair, Dave Roy, said: "When we heard about this initiative we were more than happy to purchase the custom made sign.

"We hope the sign, along with the safety message, helps to promote road safety around the school".

The kids said: "Look out for our new buddy as you pass us on Broad Street!"

Headteacher Karyn Rennie was delighted to see the parking buddy arrive at Broad Street.

The school is situated on busy Broad Street and pupils have been taking part in a number of activities to get the 'road safety around schools' message across.
