HEAVY winds have caused traffic mayhem in Cowdenbeath High Street as a bingo hall sign was left hanging dangerously.

Fire crews were called out to Premier Bingo earlier this afternoon as the hall's signs were hit by the elements.

Two appliances attended the scene at around 2.20pm in order to secure the display, but it has caused commuter chaos on High Street and surrounding roads.

Lengthy tailbacks have formed and bus routes have been affected, with passengers reporting they have been stuck in queues for more than 30 minutes.

A yellow weather warning for strong winds was issued for Fife by the Met Office for today (Friday) until Saturday evening at 6pm.

Local councillor Darren Watt sent in a photo ofthe scene and said: "I was driving along the High Street when I noticed the sign perilously hanging so I immediately pulled over to let the staff know.

"Thankfully they were aware and on the phone to the emergency services.

"Praise must go to the Fire and Rescue Service for their speedy response and their impressive efforts dealing with the situation especially in such challenging weather conditions."
