A 55-year-old man has died at Longannet Power Station, police have confirmed.

The incident happened at around 2.45pm on Wednesday.

No more details have been made public but it has been reported locally that the man was from Cowdenbeath.

Brown and Mason contractors are currently carrying out demolition work at the site.

The power station, owned by Scottish Power, in Kincardine was Scotland's last coal-fired power station and was closed in 2016.

Work began to demolish it in November but the entire process isn't expected to be completed until 2021.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called to Longannet Power Station in Kincardine around 2.45pm on Wednesday 6 February following reports of an accident.

"Sadly, a 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A joint investigation between Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive will be carried out in order to establish the full set of circumstances.”
