A LOCHORE teenager has been given a six months sentence for struggling with police after being arrested on New year's morning.

Keiran Nelson was at a house in Cowdenbeath which police officers had been called to and tried to escape being apprehended by jumping out of a window but was caught.

Nelson, 19, of McGinlay Terrace, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on January 1 at Woodside, Cowdenbeath, he resisted, obstructed or hindered two police officers by repeatedly attempting to punch them, struggled with them and lashed out with his legs.

Depute fiscal, Rebecca Clark, said that police had been called to the property to deal with another matter.

“The accused made a run for a window in an effort to evade arrest. He had to be grabbed and pulled away from the open window to stop him jumping out,” added the depute.

“He then began swinging punches at police officers. He had to be taken to the ground and restrained. He continued to struggle and lash out.”

Defence solicitor, James Moncrieff, admitted his client had “an unenviable record”.

He added: “Alcohol issues are at the root of all this and he knows his behaviour was unacceptable."

Sheriff Chris Shead sentenced Nelson to six months detention.
