Elgin City 1, Cowdenbeath 4.

Ladbrokes League 2

Attendance-575

A FINE away win pushed Cowdenbeath into the top half of the table for the first time this season.

The Blue Brazil were lethal in their finishing at Boroughbriggs, on Saturday, and Elgin struggled to contain the lively front trio of Kris Renton Jordan Allan and David Cox.

They shared the goals as Cowden carved out a host of chances against a hesitant City defence and there could have been more.

The midfield unit of Kyle Miller, Robbie Buchanan and Gary Fraser produced some fine openings for the front men while at the back the Robbie Deas stepped back in for the suspended David Marsh and teamed up well with Jamie Pyper, while Fraser Mullen and Harvey Swann were excellent flanking them.

City made a good start and in five minutes the dangerous Shane Sutherland saw his right foot shot blocked and then Greg Morrison had a go from close in but the Cowden defence stood firm.

The Fifers’ first shot saw David Cox blast in a right foot drive from the right hand side of the Elgin penalty box but the ‘keeper made a good save.

However, in 17 minutes the Blues went ahead. City ‘keeper Kyle Gourlay conceded a corner and from Fraser Mullen’s set piece Renton sent up COX and and from the middle of the penalty area he shot high into the net.

Nine minutes from the break Cowdenbeath threatened again when Allan’s shot was blocked by an outstretched City leg, but in 38 minutes the second goal came for the visitors.

The Elgin defence was caught out by a fine piece of finishing from RENTON with his 25 yarder roaring into the bottom corner of the net to give the Blues a good interval lead.

Cowden started the second period determined to build on what they had done in a good first period and the third came a minute after the re-start.

Fraser had supplied the ammunition and ALLAN fired a shot low past Gourlay from the centre of the box.

Elgin came back in to the pictured and Sutherland’s right foot shot was blocked by Pyper and as the hour approached Rabin Omar’s effort was just off target.

Then in 67 minutes they pulled one back with a Daryll McHARDY header from John Paul McGovern’s cross but within two minutes Cowden restored the three goal lead.

The Elgin defence gave ALLAN far too much space in the centre of the box and his curling shot flew past Gourlay to tie up the points
