A GROUP of aspiring young scientists from Beath High attended the St Andrews University Christmas Lecture in December.

Organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, in association with the Fife and Tayside branch of the British Science Association, on their 50th anniversary, the event was a crowd pleaser.

This year’s lecture was given by Durham University and was on the topic of the “Chemistry of Colour”. Crammed full of visually impressive experiments and displays, whilst providing insightful academic explanation and theory, the lecture was well received by all.

Mr Thomson from Beath High said: “We try to attend this event each year as it gives our young scientists the chance to experience a university lecture in a proper lecture theatre and a taste of what’s ahead. This year was another great success.”

A special thanks went to Cowdenbeath Rotary Club who donated £250 to provide transport for the young people to attend.
