BRILLIANT backing from the Benarty business community saw 90 senior citizens from Ballingry, Lochore, Crosshill and Glencraig enjoy the Christmas treat organised by Lochore and District Old People's Welfare Council.

Lochore Institute was the venue with the function hall very busy for the event which saw the veterans sit down to an excellent Christmas dinner provided by Dave's Diner, from Cardenden.

Entertainment was provided by Jackie Rae with a popular selection of music and songs that went down well with the audience.

The Welfare Council chairman Joe Paterson extended a warm thanks to the business people of Benarty for their backing and said: "We have so many really generous sponsors who make it possible for us to run this event for our senior citizens.

"I would like to thank S M Bayne Co, A McDonald Chemists, and Lochore Institute and staff for the use of the hall and free toast.

"Also the Co-op, Ore Bank Cafe, Kutz Hairdressers, Asmia, Aladins Cave, Mario Takeaway, the Turkish Barbers, Stark Butchers, Red Goth, Images, Lyn's Shop, Eclipse and Mirror Mirror for gifts and vouchers donated. These were gratefully received."

During the afternoon J Allan organised a ballot for the over 70s to vote on a venue for next year's summer drive, which is organised by the Old People's Welfare Council..

The three choices were Pitlochry, Banchory and Kirriemuir. The result was a convincing win for Banchory.

Mr Paterson then talked about senior citizens missing out on the drive held in June due to them failing to collect tickets and one or two had done the same for the Christmas party.

He stressed that the 2019 summer drive would take place on Tuesday July 9. Tickets would be on sale at the Benarty Centre on Monday June 10 and Friday June 14 at Lochore Institute. No tickets would be sold after the final date.

Tickets could be collected by friends, relatives or neighbours if the senior citizens for one reason or another could not attend.

Mr Paterson reflected on the day: "The Christmas party was a big success and full marks to Lochore Institute committee and staff for their efforts and support over the years."
