THERE is an extra special Christmas feel to one Cowdenbeath street.

Thanks to the residents of Glenfarg Crescent coming together, the street has a unique festive look to it.

One of the drivers of the initiative which sees the householders come together to see virtually every home in the street lit up for Christmas, is Hazel Anderson, who runs the Precious Events and Lucie Sue Gift Shop on High Street.

Hazel, through her involvement with Cowdenbeath Civic Week Committee, knows what is needed to see the High Street have its Christmas lights and once the 70 or so residents of Glenfarg Crescent, off Union Street, had clubbed together she organised to get the lights for each house.

Hazel said: "Everyone seemed to want to make it happen so we got the lights which were fitted to each home and the look really is pretty spectacular.

"I don't suppose there are many streets in Scotland that have the Christmas feel of Glenfarg Crescent, Cowdenbeath."

Neighbour Cheryl Whyte said: "Hazel has been the driving force but everyone has played their part and the kids absolutely love it, the lights give the street a tremendous festive ambience."

On the night of the big switch-on a barbecue was held and with fireworks and Christmas music and it was a real community evening.

Another neighbour, Ashley Lawrie, of Shapers in Broad Street, commented: "I have two wee boys and they think it is brilliant.

"The switch-on evening saw more than 30 residents have a great time and everyone chipped in with food contributions making it a grand night."

The power for the lights is shared by all the lit homes and with nearby High Street having a really festive look to it Cowdenbeath is having a very merry Christmas.
