COWDENBEATH MSP Annabelle Ewing has given a warm welcome to Fife Council’s confirmation that they will be committing to the promotion of CPR training in Fife’s Secondary Schools.

The plan will see pupils at both Lochgelly and Beath High Schools being trained in this life saving activity.

Speaking on Wednesday Ms Ewing said: “I recently wrote to the Chief Executive of Fife Council in support of the British Heart Foundation campaign to ensure that all secondary school pupils in Scotland receive training in CPR.

“I am really pleased, therefore, to have received a reply from Pam Colburn, Active Schools Manager at Fife Council, indicating that Fife Council will indeed be committing to the promotion of CPR training within our Secondary Schools.

"Ms Colburn tells me that the Council are in the process of communicating with schools to outline a timeline for appropriate implementation and that she is confident that there will be more schools delivering CPR training within Fife in the coming months.

“This is excellent news because teaching CPR skills has the potential to almost triple the survival rate from heart attack".

She added: "“It makes sense to take steps to ensure that more people have the training and confidence to administer this life-saving first aid and schools are a great place to achieve that.

"I warmly welcome this commitment from Fife Council.”
