THE Cardenden Christmas lights switch-on went saw the gremlins trying hard to pose problems for the the village Environment Group.

Indeed, the front tree in the Community Garden failed to light up and a couple of street Christmas motifs were not working and of course a horrible rain shower passed through near the time of the switch on but it did not stop everything going ahead as planned.

Everyone was entertained by the Auchterderran church choir and they were in great voice singing traditional Christmas carols.

St Ninian's Primary School's Ellie Donaldson's Christmas light design was fantastic and a deserved winner of the competition run prior to the switch-on and she was delighted to be given the honour of turning the lights on.

Said the Environment Group's Mary Murdoch: "The attendance was not as good as previous years but that could have been because of the weather which saw a lot of heavy showers earlier in the day".

Free Christmas pies were handed out courtesy of the the village Co-op.

Added Mary: "There was an excellent raffle and the cake and candy stall was also very successful.

"Thanks goes to everyone who donated produce for sale, the raffle prizes, and all our volunteers for their much appreciated help".
