MEEDIES Running Club went flat out for 24 hours to complete over 500 miles and raise more than £1,500 for local charities.

The summer event saw members take turns, in pairs, to run a 5k lap of the loch at Lochore Meadows and this went on all through the night.

And last week cheques were given to local good causes: St Kenneth's Primary School and nursery; Benarty Primary School and nursery; Dunmore Nursery; and Just4Children Drive Deck System.

The annual 24 hour relay started at 7pm on July 6 and finished at 7pm the following day, with the club's runners clocking up an amazing total of 567 miles.

Club spokesman Michael Murray explained: "Members camped out overnight whilst enjoying music, barbecues and cheering on all the runners as they took their turn for a lap.

"The club managed to run an amazing distance of 567 miles whilst raising money for the community.

"Over £1500 was raised and the club would like to take the time to thank all who sponsored the runners for this fantastic cause.

"A great time was had by all and the event will be going ahead next year again."

If you would like to come along to one of the club's sessions they meet on a Monday and Wednesday night at the Outdoor Education building at Lochore Meadows Country Park, 6.45pm for a 7pm start.

The club caters for all abilities and new comers are always welcome. For more information go to www.meediesrunning.club.
