A TEENAGER was attacked and stabbed in the head at the Cardenden bonfire and fireworks display.

The 17-year-old boy was targeted by around eight youths at a bus stop after leaving the community event at Wallsgreen Park on Friday, November 9, which was attended by hundreds of children and families.

A group of girls intervened and ran for help and he was rushed to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

A close relative of the victim told the Times that it was an “unprovoked” attack and that he was left in shock when he heard of the incident.

He said: “It’s absolutely unbelievable. It was a shock phone call. I was told that he had been stabbed in the head. You don’t know what to reply to that. It was an unprovoked attack.

“You don’t expect that at a community event where there are families with young children there.”

The teenager, from Kirkcaldy, attended the display with another family member and two girls. A stranger, of the same age, was said to have approached him at the park and asked to “shake his hand”.

Another boy asked the same question, before he was spotted trying to take a “shiny” object out of his trousers. The victim ran from the park towards the bus stop near Central Bar at around 9.15pm.

The two boys followed him and along with around six others, carried out an attack on the 17-year-old.

The relative continued: “He was thrown into the middle of the road and was punched and kicked on the ground.

“He then saw a boy on the right-hand side of him. It was the last thing he saw before he was hit in the side of the head by something. It was at this point he saw a spray of blood from the right side of his head from the corner of his eye. He was then hit again twice, once on the side of the head again and then on the back of his head.

“He knew at that point that he had been stabbed by an object of some sort.

“A group of girls ran to stop this from happening and put themselves between the boys and him.

“They took him to the closest house there was. An elderly couple took over from there and the girls phoned for an ambulance. The older lady put pressure on the wounds while her husband stood guard at the door to make sure no-one came back.”

A police probe is underway, with inquiries ongoing as to what object was used during the attack.

A spokesperson said: “Police in Fife are investigating following an assault in Cardenden. The incident happened around 9.15pm on Friday November 9 in the Cardenden Road area. “Emergency services attended and a 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
